APPLES AND BLACKBERRIES - SEPTEMBER 2018

I think most schools have started this week which, I suppose, marks the end of summer - for some that probably feels rather sad, but there is so much to celebrate. The hedgerows are full of blackberries, and trees are laden with apples, pears and all sorts of other fruits. The conkers will be here any minute too! It really is one of my favourite times of year. It's not only the fruit trees that are weighed down - the shelves in Fino HQ are...

SPRING WAS SO NEARLY HERE - FEBRUARY 2018 Last weekend it really seemed like spring was here - dainty little snowdrops, the first daffodils, and shoots appearing all over the garden ... and now the Beast of the East has arrived and it is all change. Until today we had got away with it here in Oxford but as I am writing this the snow has started to fall and everywhere is turning white. At times like this I can understand people asking me why we came back from Spain! Despite plummeting temperatures outside all is good here at Fino HQ...

Harvest Time - October 2017

Last night I walked outside at about 8pm and was completely spellbound by the most beautiful full moon. I don't know if any of you saw it but it was amazing. On the theme of gathering crops, there is nothing better than "home grown" fruit and veg - sadly we don't grow any vegetables at home,...

Simple Things are often the best - August 2017

SIMPLE THINGS ARE OFTEN THE BEST - AUGUST 2017 I have just returned from a charity trip to Kenya where I was one of a group running a week long summer camp for hundreds of children, in one of the many desperately poor communities around Kisumu, near Lake Victoria. I have been there before but even so I found it shocking seeing how they live – their homes are tiny mud huts, often dilapidated and with no electricity, hunger and dehydration are not uncommon, their clothes are generally threadbare, and many of the children have no shoes yet they often have to walk miles to get to school. Interestingly, and possibly because they...
