NEW SINGLE VARIETY OLIVE OIL AND DISCOUNTS - SPRING 2016

Sadly there weren’t any wild narcissi to be seen when we went to Spain! There were plenty of other wild flowers scattered around the fields, and the branches of our lemon trees were laden with juicy fruits which made up for it -  I even managed to sneak a few into my bag to bring back with me.

Good news is that whilst we were there I tasted a new olive oil which I will now have this season.  It is a single variety olive oil which comes from the manzanilla olive - quite similar to an oil I had a few years ago, but this time the olives are grown by Jose Maria at his finca near Casarabonela. It has a very "green" and deliciously olivey flavor and will be particularly great for salads or dipping. Here’s another recipe I have been loving whilst on my health kick.  It is vegetarian so works for anyone as a main course, or you could have it as a side dish with meat or fish. I promise it’s so good!

Kale and Red Onion Dhal – for 1

1tsp extra virgin olive oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 40g red onion chopped, 1 garlic clove chopped, 1 tsp finely chopped ginger, 1 birds eye chilli chopped, 1 tsp curry powder, 2tsp ground turmeric, 300ml veg stock, 40g red lentils, 50g chopped kale, 50ml coconut milk

Heat the olive oil over gentle heat and add mustard seeds. As the mustard seeds start to pop add the onion, garlic, chilli and ginger and cook until soft. Add the curry powder and turmeric, cook for a minute, then add the stock and bring to the boil. Add the lentils and simmer for 15 minutes before adding the chopped kale and coconut milk. Simmer for a further 5 minutes until the kale is cooked.
