I am one of four children, three brothers and me, so growing up we were very familiar with the words Maximus, Major, Minor and Minimus being used to describe the sibling pecking order. It seems rather appropriate therefore that we have now introduced three smaller sized tins of The Village Oil to the Fino family - our very own Major, Minor and Minimus. They look much like our Maximus, the very popular 2.5 litre tin, but are just smaller versions, and most importantly the olive oil inside the tin is exactly the same delicious Extra Virgin Olive Oil that we have always sold - The Village Oil. We love them and hope you do too.
WHY HAVE I MADE THE CHANGE ..
There are a number of reasons. Firstly the tins are filled at source, where the olives are grown and milled, so exposure to oxygen is minimised with the olive oil retaining maximum freshness. Secondly tins are impenetrable by UV rays so the olive oil is not exposed to light. Thirdly the recycling process for tins is less costly and more energy efficient than for glass, and they are lighter and easier to transport so they are more environmentally friendly ... and they pour really well too.
SO WHY HAVE I SOLD THE OLIVE OIL IN BOTTLES FOR 20 YEARS ..
Because I love the bottles - it's as simple as that - and I know many of you do too.
Our Balsamics will still be in bottles, as well as our Chilli Oil, and I do have a few remaining bottles of Olive Oil in stock.
If you love your Fino Olive Oil in a bottle on your table I will always have Fino branded bottles which you only need buy once and then use forever. Many of you I know have held on to your old bottles so now they can have a new life!
In other news I have also finally got round to introducing wipeable labels so hopefully they should remain good as new.
